Remote Control
FAQ
I can't find a code that operates my TV or VCR?
Have you tried CodeScan? It lets you search through all the codes in the remote to see if one works. It's in the user's manual and in the instructions section. If that doesn't work, then unfortunately, there's no code available for that TV or VCR.
Volume
not working on cable box or VCR?
Some cable boxes and VCR's do not have volume functions at
all. Be sure that you have your TV programmed to the remote,
and use the VOLUME PUNCH THRU instructions in your manual or
on the website to duplicate the volume functions on the
cable box or VCR.
Not able
to access all the available channels on my TV or VCR?
Many TV's or VCR's require you to 'auto program' the
channels if there has been a power failure or other
interruption of service. Also, if you are receiving CABLE
with out the use of a cable converter, you may have to
switch the TV or VCR to CATV mode in order to pick up the
signal correctly. The instructions for these are in the
manual for your TV or VCR. After finding the correct
procedure for your particular device, use the corresponding
keys on the remote to duplicate the procedure from your TV
or VCR manual.
How do I set up Parental Control?
You'll need to contact your cable company about this. They may need to issue a PIN that will allow you to lock and unlock channels.
What
is the warranty on your remotes?
The legally binding limited warranty for your remote is
printed in the original instruction manual that came with
your remote control. Generally, if your remote does not
operate the basic functions of your devices, you can return
it to the retailer where it was purchased within the 90 day
warranty period. You will need a proof of purchase, (sales
receipt), and the remote will have to be in its original
condition (all parts including instruction manual).
Individual retailers and municipalities may have more or
less stringent rules concerning returns.
We hope that you will take advantage of every opportunity
for customer support before you decide to return you’re
remote.
Do I have to reprogram my remote control after I replace the batteries?
GDI has
solved this problem with the creation of Code Lock. Code
Lock stores the codes in the remote for as long as 30 years,
even with the batteries removed. The latest lines of 3-in-1
and 4-in-1 remote controls feature Code Lock.
Not all remote controls have Code Lock, though. Your remote
needs power to store the codes that you programmed into it.
Once the batteries have been removed, there's no power
source, so the codes will be flushed from memory. Sometimes,
there's enough power stored within the electronics of the
remote to hold the codes until you put in new batteries; but
often, if you inadvertently press a button on the remote
after the batteries have died, any remaining power is
drained and the codes are lost.
Can I add new codes to my remote controls memory?
On most GDI models we have added a communication port that offers a customer
the flexibility to download new device codes to the remote control.
Instructions
GDI provides these instructions as a general guide to allow you to become more familiar with your remote control and cable converter. Refer to your cable box manual for information on specific functions. Cable converters can be configured differently by your cable company, so some functions may operate differently than what is listed here.
Many of our manuals are available on-line for your convenience. You'll need Adobe's free Acrobat Reader software to view these files.
